Outcomes

Benign – Benign outcomes had no evidence of malignancy after 2 or more years of clinical follow-up.

Malignant -Malignant outcomes were determined by positive cytology, surgical pathology, or clinical cancer treatment.

Diagnostic Category

Benign – Patient has no molecular abnormalities. Clinical features do not influence this diagnosis.
Statistically Indolent (SI) – Patient has at least one molecular abnormality but has no clinically worrisome features.
Statistically Higher Risk (SH-Risk) – Patient has at least one molecular abnormality and may have one or more clinically worrisome features.
Aggressive – Patient has two or more significant molecular abnormalities. Clinical features do not influence this diagnosis.

Performance characteristics for integrated molecular pathology were determined using a standard 2 x 2 table. For purposes of data analysis, molecular diagnoses of “benign” or “statistically indolent” were grouped into a low malignant potential category and molecular diagnoses of “statistically higher risk” or “aggressive” were grouped into a high malignant potential category.
